The End

I recently published my first edited book,  Labor of Love: A Literary Mama Staff Anthology ,  with  Small Harbor Publishing . It's an anthology of writing from  Literary Mama  staff over the past 20 years. It's a beautiful collection and I am proud of the writers and proud to share the book.  It seems a fitting moment, as I pondered sharing about the book here on the blog, to reflect on my life as a blogger, and acknowledge that it is time to officially end this blog.   I started blogging in about 2007, when my baby was learning to toddle, when I was learning how to be a mother and stepmother, when I was just starting to see my way as a writer. I needed it back then. I craved it. I had a variety of blog iterations--family, art, creativity, writing things I delved into. There's a freedom in blogging, a casualness, an easy familiarity that's lacking (for me anyway) in other kinds of writing. I loved blogging and the words came pouring out.  Ove...

A Literary Mama

Step by step, I am making myself into whom I wish to be.

Just yesterday I got word that I was chosen for a position as a Blog Editor at Literary Mama- an online literary magazine for the maternally inclined.

This didn't just happen because of my good looks.  No, I had to apply, send along a resume and a letter stating why I was a worthy blogger.  And then I had to wait- as with all things that have to do with writing.

While I waited, I perused my resume.  This thrown together thing that somehow on paper was meant to convey to a distant person who exactly I am.  (Ever the question for me- check out The Artist's Words tomorrow for another post on who I am.)  But something occurred to me as I read through my extensive blogging credits, and much much shorter writing credits--

I am a blogger.  I blog.  I blog a lot.  I have blogged about my life for six years, in various formats.  I am striving to be a writer, a published writer, and writer with writing credits. But as I look back over the years, over all the blogs, I see I am a writer already.  I always have been.

Thankfully, I did not have to wait long.  I had a phone interview with the Ed-In-Chief Caroline, and five days later, along with one other talented woman, got the job.

Now, I say job, but you should know that Literary Mama is an organization made up of creative and crafty writer-mothers who all give their time and skill to the magazine out of pure Love of Literature. No money doth change hands.  Yet, I am prepared to take on my new blogging responsibilities with a creative heart and a wage-earner's passion.

I have read the essays and fiction and columns of Literary Mama on and off for the past year or so, and I highly recommend it.  I can say that with honesty, because I have yet to post my first post. Who knows what direction the thing will take with me on board.  But this I can say with certainty...  I am a blogger. I am a writer. I am a Literary Mama.
